Boston Tea Party

On the evening of December 16, 1773, a group of American colonists boarded three British ships anchored in Boston Harbor and emptied 342 chests of tea into the water. Their protest was directed against the Tea Act and the principle of taxation without representation, becoming one of the defining acts of resistance against British rule in colonial America.

The Boston Tea Party galvanized support for the patriot cause and prompted a series of punitive measures by the British government that ultimately united the colonies on the path toward revolution.
